What is Scalp PRP?

There is a chance you’ve heard of the Vampire Facial™. It is a type of PRP facial with a trademarked name that is not entirely dissimilar to the Gilded Facial. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma (aka liquid gold, because this stuff is incredible). Platelets are the little guys who rush to the site of a wound to form a clot. Cleverly, they also carry lots of good things (cytokines and growth factors) with them to help said wound heal. These growth factors will also cause growth and collagen formation in the face and scalp (and virtually anywhere, if we’re being honest with each other). Your own blood is used to create PRP and then injected back into the areas of concern.

What can I expect?

You will have a few tablespoons of blood drawn which will then be spun for about 15 minutes in a sophisticated centrifuge to get the platelets concentrated to nearly 7-8 times higher than they normally occur in your body. The PRP is then injected back into the skin, so it can be a bit uncomfortable while you are having it done. But there options to numb you up prior to the procedure, which makes it all worth it!

When will I see results?

The results are not immediate. Patience is a virtue in this case. It will take your skin a while to grow and regenerate. Most spa-goers combine this with microneedling, so you can expect to be red for about 2-3 days.

How long do the results last?

Since your body is creating collagen and elastin, the results are permanent. That being said, you will need further maintenance treatments in a year or two to keep up with old Father Time.

In what body areas can I get it?

You’ve probably heard about PRP being used in sports medicine. That’s because we can inject it just about anywhere to achieve incredible results. But, since Gilded Palm is an aesthetic spa and not a sports medicine spa (for now, anyway) we focus on scalp and facial rejuvenation. (It yields astonishing results for women with thinning hair or hair loss.)

What is PRF?

PRF is platelet-rich fibrin. It is similar to PRP (platelet-rich plasma), except there is no anticoagulant (so it is even more YOU!) and therefore comes out as a gel, rather than a liquid, thanks to the fibrin matrix. This fibrin matrix holds the growth factors and cytokines in place longer and even adds a bit of immediate volume. The PRF can stimulate hair growth, collagen growth, skin tightening and thickening!

What can I expect?

The procedure takes only about 30 minutes and is not generally associated with much discomfort. Your blood will be drawn and centrifuged, then injected into the area of concern. It is usually only a few injections and we are all done! Occasionally, the under-eyes will swell following injection, but that usually only lasts a few days if it occurs.

When will I see results?

You will need at least three treatment sessions. Improvement will begin approximately three months after injection, as the collagen is formed. Each injection will be spaced about one month apart.

How long do the results last?

Once again, since we are creating our own collagen, the results are essentially permanent, although you will continue to age and may desire more treatments in the future.

In what body areas can I get it?

Since there is no anticoagulant, we are on the clock once the PRF is collected (or else it will clot before we are able to inject it). As such, we can only use it in small areas—usually under-eyes, lip lines or eyebrows. Occasionally, we may choose to mix PRF with a dermal filler if we feel we need a little extra volume.
